Johnny Sauter No. 13 FarmPaint.com/Curb Records Chevrolet Preview: Texas Motor
Speedway
Sandusky, Oh. (November 3, 2010) - Johnny Sauter heads to
the Lone Star state coming off an impressive weekend at Talladega Superspeedway.
Sauter and his ThorSport Racing team had a strategy - to run with drivers Sauter
trusted and to stay out of trouble before charging to the front late in the race
- and they stuck to it. Sauter masterfully weaved through traffic late in the
race and drafted to the third position on the final lap before swinging to the
high side in a three-wide battle to the finish line. Sauter ended up third but
was just 29 one-thousandths of a second away from victory. This weekend at Texas
will provide similar speed but an entirely different strategy: Sauter wants to
start up front, lead as many laps as possible, and drive the No. 13
FarmPaint.com/Curb Records Chevrolet into victory lane.
Last week you took it easy until the end and then
drove to the front; is it safe to say you won't use that same strategy this
week? "The obvious goal this week is to go there and run up front all night
long. Unlike Talladega you really have to work hard to get track position at a
place like Texas so we don't want to do anything to give it up. Last week was
really an anomaly and the goal there is to just wait around and stay out of
trouble. This week it's all about being up front."
You seem to have found the consistency that you and Joe
Shear, Jr. expected from the start of the season; is it frustrating to have had
to wait until the second half of the season to find it? "Yes and no. The big
thing is now Joe and I have been to all these tracks together with a truck.
Since he joined the team in the middle of last season, there were still some
tracks that we hadn't been to so there was still a learning curve. So it was a
little hit or miss in the first part of the season but we were still adding to
our notebook. Some of the issues we had were a little out of our hands too. But
let's face it, you learn more about what not to do that what to do in racing,
and that's part of what we were doing. Now I think weve really figured out the
basic setups we need and we can go to the track and just work on honing them
week in and week out."
You were just one second away from victory in June; can you
beat Todd Bodine this weekend? "The best thing for us is we've been able to
bring back this truck, No. 23, in one piece time and time again and we've been
able to keep massaging on it to make it better. Right now it's better than it's
ever been. But Todd has had a lot of luck this year and he's really good at
Texas. We need to go down and be competitive off the truck, have good pit stops
on pit road and make our own luck like he has this season."
Johnny at Texas: Johnny has four previous NASCAR Camping
World Truck Series starts at Texas Motor Speedway and he's finished eleventh or
better in all of them. In three races there with ThorSport Racing he's collected
a pair of sixth-place finishes (both races in 2009) and a second place (June,
2010). He has earned one pole position (June 2009) with an average start of
12.2. His average finish is 6.2. He's completed all 650 possible competition
laps and led 42 laps is June 2009. In seven career Nationwide Series starts his
best finish was tenth in November 2005. He also has four career Sprint Cup
Series starts at TMS with a best finish of 22nd in April 2007.
Johnny's Texas Truck: Johnny will drive ThorSport Racing
Chassis No. 23 at Texas this weekend. No. 23 is Sauter's favorite truck and has
won two races (Las Vegas 2009, Kansas 2010) and carried him to eight top-five
finishes over the past two seasons (Chicagoland and Las Vegas 2009; Kansas,
Texas, Nashville, Chicagoland, Kentucky, and Las Vegas 2010). FarmPaint.com
