State Park Speedway – Twin 50’s 6.2.16

Johnny Sauter & Natalie Decker split ‪#‎TheHappening‬ Twin-50s at State Park Speedway Thursday in WI.

The Happening event, honoring Father Grubba’s 50 year anniversary, brought out many fans and even more drivers and track personnel from years past. Throughout the night, drivers, track owners, media, family of late racers and many others were introduced to a great crowd. The Kim Parson’s Memorial Trophy Tour also made their stop to State Park Speedway and handed out beautiful trophies to the winners of the features. The racing action involved qualifying and Features without heat races.
In the Green Mill Super Late Models presented by C-Tech, Dalton Zehr took fast time for the second week in a row. In the first feature, Natalie Decker led most of the race until MG Gajewski made his way towards the front and took the lead on lap 27. Natalie Decker and Justin Mondeik fought to stay with Gajewski and on the last lap, Gajewski slipped out of turn two and spun, making contact with Mondeik. A few other cars bunched up, but no major damages. Because of the Gajewski spin, the yellow and checkered flag were displayed together, meaning Natalie Decker, who was second to Gajewski at the last completed lap, was declared the winner of the first 50 lap feature.
In order to set the line-up for the second feature, Decker tolled the dice in Auto Select Victory Lane. The invert was six plus the toll, which was a one. That put Jim Sauter Jr, Johnny Sauter and Tim Sauter starting up front. Early on, it would be Johnny Sauter and Tim Sauter fighting for the lead. A mid-race caution, however, changed everything. Jim Sauter Jr. spun out of turn four after contact with Justin Mondeik and Sauter collected Chris Weinkauf and Derek Kraus. All three of those cars would be done for the night.
On the restart Johnny Sauter jumped back to the lead, but Tim Sauter remained hot in his tracks. Tim stalked Johnny around the track over the final laps, but Johnny prevailed and picked up the win. Tim finished second place and Jeremy Lepak came home in third. Decker and MG Gajewski rounded out the top 5. Points show Natalie Decker leading Justin Mondeik by 36 points.
